Every newbie marketer wishes to become successful one day. After all, what’s more important than that in business? Along the way, many fall and many give up.
The road towards online business success seems more complicated than ever, especially in 2017. Complicated doesn’t mean impossible…it means that it’s trickier, and it requires a higher degree of work, combined with a proper mindset and skills.
Now – on the other side of the fence, we have the winners. These are the individuals who have successfully started an online business. Even though they’re now successful, they haven’t always been that way.
In fact, most success stories are being displayed as if success was easy and random. “Be in the right spot, find a rare product and a profitable niche, get a hold of a special exclusive IM report… and you win” …nope, it really doesn’t work that way.
Success in online marketing is extremely complicated to predict. Because we’re talking about business, we can’t just assume that something will work and something will not. But, we have to practice and try up until we figure out whether Method X works or not.
Let’s get straight into the practical information. During this post, you should keep all of your attention here. It’s also always good to have a piece of paper and a pen near you. Handwriting is good for retaining more of what you write and it also creates a flow of new creativity juices.
1. The Lack of a Well-Planned Online Business Strategy
Even if the business that you’re conducting is online, and often doesn’t require physical actions, you still need to have a proper strategy. A plan of attack or a roadmap is always required in case you want to achieve greater things. You need to figure out what you want from your online business. What is the end result?
Once you got that, you need to split the big goal into smaller goals. You can have as many smaller goals, as they all combined represent your “journey” to success. You need to tackle each, obtain results, test, optimize, and come up with the final strategy that can be replicated over and over again.
2. Not Targeting Your Audience Well Enough
The online marketplace is a big, big place. One of the key factors to creating and sustaining a successful online business is your ability to target your audience well enough. You need to understand who your target audience is. Figure out what types of people belong to it, what are their biggest problems, needs, desires and hopes.
Once you know a thing or two about them, you can perceive them differently. This allows you to create more valuable content which is personalized for only some, you can lower you CPC costs because you can target long-tail keywords, and you can also gain more of your prospect’s trusts.
3. Neglecting Social Media
Social media networks combined are the most populated “place” on the entire internet. Millions of people use social media channels each day for various reasons. The digital technology advancements have led to the creation of smartphones, allowing the use of social media to be spread worldwide.
Online success comes after you successfully manage to bring your brand’s name in front of your customers. Social media gives you this opportunity, and it would be such a shame not to leverage it.

Moreover, you can also network with other successful people and construct productive relationships.
4. Outsourcing Cheaply
Outsourcing is a great way to leverage your time in the proper manner. It’s always good to do something that you’re only good at, and pay others to do something else in the meanwhile. Well, if things were so simple, everyone would be hiring cheap virtual assistants, writers, and marketers.
Unfortunately, freelancers can be professional or newbies. They could be in the middle too, but you can clearly see the difference between and a pro and a noob. Okay – if you have high expectations with your business, you’ll never want to hire the cheapest guy.
It’s almost obvious. Try to understand that you’re competing with individuals who spend thousands and hundreds of thousands of their design, employees, marketing, and everything you can imagine. Yep, they often exist, especially in the highly competitive niches.
Your ultimate goal is to deliver a lot of value to your customers. The cheap workers will never build that value, so you’ll end up with superficial business foundations.
5. Not Having a List
If you don’t have a list, you are wasting potential every second your website is online. People come and go, that’s a fact. If they want to leave your website, you can do nothing about it.
But, the best way to make sure that you’ve at least tried is to create an e-mail list. Offer them an incentive to subscribe (exclusive content, a freebie, etc.), and make the sign-up box stand out on your website.
Once you have a list, you’ll be able to promote exclusive offers, send content, and promote offers. You’re doubling your revenues only by maintaining a relationship with your customers. Oh, and by the way, you’re also winning their trust and social media shares.
6. Always Learning, Never Applying
Lastly, an issue with which so many entrepreneurs confront. For a few months, I was insane… I started to consume a lot of content, taking notes and trying to remember all the concepts at once.

Whatever you do next, make sure that you commit to it, and stick to it. Giving up is never an option. Of course, it can be an option if you’re not really eager to be successful. If it can wait, I’d even suggest staying out for good.
