3 job-related myths you should stop believing
- You can change your life if you want to. How? By wanting to change it.
Sometimes when people have been in a job for while, they can start to believe various company culture fallacies that may actually do their career more harm than good.
Here are three attitudes that could hold a person back from achieving their full potential at work and in life.
3. I’m happy just to have a job.
I used to be the same way. But I found that you can survive AND be happy at the same time.
How? By doing what you love to do. And figuring out how to turn that into a job.
In my case, it’s writing and teaching others the lessons I’ve learned.
2. My job is just a job and allows me to do the things I want to do in my free time.
This makes sense, provided you still have that job.
But when I was laid off from my previous roles, I was forced to start from the bottom again:
Don’t expect any job to last forever.
The economy changes, companies get acquired, and things happen quickly in the business world that will affect how you pay your bills and feed your family.
Why leave that up to chance?
You can take control of the current comfortable situation and use the time wisely by starting a side hustle.
You’ll develop new skills that can be applied to even more jobs, or you may make enough income from the side hustle to turn it into a full-time hustle.
1. They can’t fire me, I’m too valuable!
People get fired when they are not right for the role.
Or when they say bad words at work:
Someday you may say the wrong thing at work and you could be fired.
Don’t let bad words and myths keep you from achieving your dreams.
