What’s your dream job?
I ask people what they would do as a dream job, however I specify that it has to be a job that they would enjoy greatly AND is actually feasible if certain steps are taken (education, training, certification, tools, experience, etc.)
Not surprisingly, the answer given usually differs from the person’s real job.
Over time, I’ve realized that my dream realistic job is to be a writer.
Of…books…TV shows…movies…articles…what?
Truthfully, I don’t know. It changes almost daily as I write more and think about what I like, what I don’t, and what I want to do. But for now, I am keeping that title and description vague on purpose.
So I figured out my dream realistic job. Now what?
I decided to wake up and KEEP dreaming. And it’s working, albeit slowly but that’s how I like to learn new things. I didn’t expect it to happen overnight (nothing worthwhile ever does).
I started this blog and a Twitter account. I make a conscious effort to write, but only about stuff I want to write about, not stuff I think I need to write in order to get a “writing job”. I keep my skills updated, learn new ones, and do freelance writing and marketing projects to help others while building my own experience and network.
And most importantly, I’m having fun doing it all. Because if it wasn’t fun, then I wouldn’t even bother doing all this. I’d be pursuing a different, realistic dream.
